"Visiting La Cache on Greene Avenue"

Last Saturday, I was visiting La Cache in Montreal, our flagship
store on Greene Avenue, the one and only original La Cache home,
a pretty white stucco, bow-fronted, three-storied Victorian
building on the old Carriage Street of Westmount in Anglo Montreal.
It was early Saturday morning and I was popping in to get a
new outfit and to check out the store. It is always fun to visit
because I love the store and I spent many a year there meeting
my customers, with my baby on hip, and selling them our pretty
treasures from the east. It brings back many fond memories.
As I was perusing through the racks and selecting my red corduroy
peasant skirt (Gitanoterrific style, and a great color)
and black jersey top (it has a ribbon belt with a gorgeous coral
floral on a black groundvery flattering), I was keeping
my eye on a woman trying on red pants in the changing room (also
corduroywe were having a great pant offer, a $10 discount
just to try the pants on!). Something about her smiling open
face was familiarbut what? Well I offered to find her
another size, but her mother was helping her alreadyhmm,
a little child hanging on her leg too. We eyed each other, she
was smiling a little at me too. Finally at the check-outshe
with her red pants and I with my wonderful red peasant skirtshe
said to me, "April?"
"Yes?"
"Don't you recognize me? I'm Tanya, your old babysitter!"
I had to laugh. Here she was with little one in tow, and shopping
with her mother (my former neighbor), probably looking just
like I did all those years ago, when her mom came in to buy
three embroidered blouses for her three little girls!
I guess I was looking at Tanya and at myself in the past. That
is one of things I love about visiting our storesso many
of our customers have grown up in the business with us. Little
girls who first came in with their moms are mothers now, bringing
their daughters shopping with them, and young women who were
in their twenties when we started the businessjust like
Chris and Iare young grandmothers now!
Time flies when you're having fun!
This year, we're celebrating 30 years in the business, can you
believe it? If you would like to share memories of shopping
at La Cache over the years please drop me a line.
All the best,
April
