"Thoughts on Home"
Today I came across some notes that I had written some time
ago on "home." I thought I would share them with you:
Home it is a memory we make almost every day.
Home for me is sometimes here, but often far away.
Home it is my favorite moment recognized and found.
Home is when the bread is so sweet, I look up in surprise and
see my grandma's smiling face looking in my eyes.
Home it is the easy things, the laughs and tales we tell, home
it is the completeness of being known so well.
Home is all the memories we carry in ourselves and often contemplate.
Home is the smells, the sounds, the rituals with which our lives
are shaped.
Home for me can be the shadow of a coconut tree, the conversation
in its shade, or the recollection of a group of boys going off
to school, while the autumn colors of orange and gold and green
flame behind them on their route.
Home is where you sit and sigh and say "I'm home at last,"
or when land you up somewhere and say, "this feels like
home to me."
Home, as my sister likes to say, is where the heart is found.
