The age of email has created a very easy way to stay in touch with friends and relatives with just a few keystrokes and the click of a mouse. However, nothing pulls on heartstrings like a traditional handwritten letter. A letter can be an art form. To have a friend's thoughts scrolled out in something that you can hold, to admire, to ponder, and to save, adds a thoughtful touch to a simple gesture.
Write a thank you note for gifts you received over the holidays, simply say hello to someone that you have not talked with in a while, give words of encouragement to a friend about to embark on a new journey in life, or simply write words of gratitude to a friend just for being her. I like to use beautiful stationary bought on a trip or a piece of watercolor paper with a tiny painting for a backdrop. Go ahead, scroll words of your own wisdom and thanks, and your friend will be delighted when she opens her mailbox and finds a brightly colored paper with your handwriting naming her as the lucky recipient.
Happy writing!
