When More is More
December 4, 2006
One thing you can say about the holiday season is that it is exciting!
It makes us focus and it creates a cyclonic affect of whirling
activities that we get caught in.
Christmas window displays and retail are one of the most fun ways
to express the frenzy that is Christmas shopping.
The frenzy that being the household coordinator at Christmas involves:
The role that the mother or grandmother plays in making
Christmas delightful and awe inspiring for little ones
The role of not forgetting anybody in the family
Of indulging Father and comforting old people
The civic responsibilities: decorate the door, gifts to
the postman and FedEx guy
The beauty responsibilities: get your hair done, a new dress,
trash that old apron
The charitable responsibilities: donate food to the food
shelf and seal envelopes to your favorite charities
For the obsessively artful: making Christmas cards and ornaments.
And for the dutiful, finding time to mail them, phone calls
to friends not met for a year, parties to attend and parties to
give.
In a few short weeks more merry-making is done than in the entire
year.
The holiday Christmas window for retailers is the icing on the
cake or the maraschino cherry on the shortbread cookie. It is
the time to be the best that we can be! It is time to strut our
stuff and show who we are.
We can express every Christmas fantasy we have and entice every
kind of shopper into our stores.
I know my Christmas store window is full of twinkling Christmas
trees from Cody and Foster in soft pastels with elves circled
around them. I have a positive forest of Silvestri vintage metallic
treesgold and silver. I have April Cornell gold tissue curtains
and Christmas dresses for little girls. I have velvet jackets
for evenings and nighties for Mom. And in case people are just
not getting the idea, I have old fashioned metal signs from THT
that say "Giving Time" and "Love is the Spirit
of Christmas" and "Time for Joy."
So, make your windows joyful, abundant and giving and full of
solutions for our lady (or gentleman) of the house because this
is the time when More is More in their life and in yours!
